Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed Chilled for better texture
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk Can substitute with regular milk and vinegar
Add-ins
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced cooked ham Can substitute with bacon
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives Optional for added flavor

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until combined.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or two knives until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the buttermilk and gently stir with a fork until it just starts to come together.
  5. Fold in the cheddar cheese, diced ham, and chives until evenly mixed.
Baking
  1. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it to about 3/4-inch thickness.
  2. Use a biscuit cutter to press straight down to cut the biscuits.
  3. Move the biscuits to your prepared baking sheet, spacing them about an inch apart.
  4. Bake for 15-18 minutes until the biscuits rise beautifully and are golden brown on top.

Notes

These biscuits are best served warm. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for a month.
