  • cup granulated sugar
  • 2 pieces egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Other extracts can be used.
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Sifted before use.
  • ¼ tsp salt Omit if using salted butter.
  • 2 Tbsp milk Use whole or 2%.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Ensure the butter is softened to room temperature.
  2. Gather your ingredients and set them within easy reach.
Mixing
  1. In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened butter with the granulated sugar until pale and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  2. Add the egg yolks and vanilla extract, then mix until combined.
  3. Gradually fold in the sifted flour and salt with a spatula.
  4. Slowly mix in the milk until the dough comes together but isn’t too wet.
Chilling and Baking
  1. Form a disc with the dough, wrap it in plastic wrap, and chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Roll the dough out on a floured surface, cut into desired shapes, and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden.
Cooling
  1. Let the cookies cool on a rack before enjoying.

Notes

These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for about a week at room temperature, up to two weeks in the fridge, or frozen for up to three months. For best results, chill the dough longer.
