  • 1 cup whole wheat flour Substitute with almond flour for a gluten-free option
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon Experiment with spices like nutmeg for added flavor
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or chocolate chips Optional but recommended for added texture

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
  2. In a bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth.
  3. Add the applesauce, honey (or maple syrup), and vanilla extract; mix until combined.
  4. In another bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in walnuts or chocolate chips if desired.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
Baking
  1. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Allow to cool before slicing.

Notes

Store slices in the fridge for about a week or freeze for up to three months. Reheat in microwave or toaster. Perfect with butter or honey and excellent alongside coffee or tea.
